Who I Am ?

My name is Aphy Mputu, founder and CEO of Deep Sense in Luxembourg.

Through Deep Sense, I help organizations in Luxembourg detect and prevent burnout, acting on early warning signs before they turn into hidden costs, absenteeism, or turnover. I also offer confidential, one-on-one support to individuals going through a gray zone period or recovering from burnout — or, more broadly, facing other professional challenges. This support is professional coaching: it does not replace medical or psychological care, and I refer people to qualified health professionals whenever the situation requires it.

My background combines solid experience in financial data analysis within large organizations — including eight years as a “Senior Analyst” at Amazon Luxembourg — with more than 25 years of experience supporting people through nonprofit and community organizations. From 2019 to 2023, I also served as an employee representative at Amazon Luxembourg, a role that exposed me to the wide range of professional and personal challenges faced by employees.

In 2019, a professional coaching certification (RNCP Level 7, ICN Business School) gave me the words to name precisely what I had already been doing for a long time, the concepts to formalize that practice, and new avenues for reflection. In 2023, I completed this practice with a Mental Health First Aid certification, both the standard and youth versions.

The Experience of Burnout: How Deep Sense Began

In April 2021, after several years in a demanding professional environment, I was placed on medical leave due to a severe burnout, which included a five-week hospital stay.

Before the collapse, I was on top of every important deadline, and whenever someone asked how I was doing, I would say: “I’m fine, I’m managing…”

It was my own burnout that pushed me to search for answers — first to recover myself, and later, as opportunities arose, to help others do the same.

From Practice to Research

It was this same pattern, observed again and again in dozens of different people — the same invisible shift — that made it necessary to name it properly.

Putting it into words is an independent research endeavor, carried out outside of Deep Sense and signed as a researcher (Independent Researcher), a role distinct from that of founder. It led to the publication of a research article in June 2026 as a preprint: “The Gray Zone of Burnout.”
